Hand & Heart Drawing Club

Booooo this looks so boring. I don't think it's supposed to be a fun event but a kind of life drawing class.

BRIEF I: PLAN A CREATIVE EVENT

Rationale:
As we approach the end of the 2nd year of our degrees, we as visual communication class mates and peers have formed some tight relationships. Wether through shared interests of design or music, or living in close quarters during the 1st year it is natural for us to communicate with one another through social activity, the pub or a house party, and also through an online community  - sharing interesting links, photos, video and comments through our blogs and social networking websites. Within the course, collaborations are beginning to form. I want to mix the idea of coming together creatively in an environment which is relaxed and open.

Brief:
Arrange and hold an event which tests this idea with visual communication peers. Create an environment which encourages creativity through themes and formats. Audience participation is crucial, so utilising the array of skills practiced by visual communication students will be key to achieving an outcome which shows the event documented and turned into a website to help publicise future events which will be open to everyone.

THEMEZ - COLLAGE

I've been doing some library research on collage to get some inspiration.
I came across Fred Tomaselli & I'm very excited...

Collage sure is fun, and I'm wondering how it would work as the theme for an event.

I did an online search to find out if anyone else is doing this kind of ting...

Theres only a bloody collective called Collage Club Isn't there!!

Love this one...

I'm not sure they have anything to do with collage, although the collective includes Luke Best.

A well documented Collage based event can be found here.

They also have a Facebook to keep people updated.

Publicity

Thinking about publicity for events. The easiest way these days is through blogs.

Heres some ways in which Lazy Oaf publicised The Drawing Club;

Blogs & Websites & Newsletters (OH MY!)

Amelia's magazine made an early post about the event...

The shop is in Kingly Court which is part of Carnaby St. The area has a website with an Events & Promotions section where they posted about the event...

Dazed Digital (Dazed & Confused) posted an article & interview on their website...

Freshness mag were a little slow on the uptake and posted an article on their site on the day of the event...

The same happened at the Creative Review blog

In the month leading up to the event, Lazy Oaf distributed flyers through their shop and inside online orders. The idea was for the recipients to draw within the frame on the back and get it back to Lazy Oaf to be part of the exhibition...

A digital version of this was circulated via their websites blog and through Myspace...
This allowed for people to create digital drawings and email them in, which proved to be easier.

BRANDING - FLYERS

Some event flyers I picked up when in London...

Although I'm not keen on the design of this one, I love the idea of the event and the name is clever!!

LAZY OAF DRAWING CLUB!!

In the last week of my 3 week internship at Lazy Oaf I helped to set up and run an event called 'The Drawing Club'.

There was live drawing from John Slade, Ian Stevenson, Eddie Fett & Gemma Correll...

There was also lovely work submitted by various other drawers, which were put in to lovely pastel frames (sprayed them colours by yours truly)!

The public could also join in. The event was sponsored by Posca Pens.

The event also celebrated the launch of the labels new collection of t-shirts with a 20% off incentive! Uh ohhh!

Have a free beer!! Oh look who it is!
